The person who died passed at Gettysburg Hospital following the first crash into a utility pole along Route 116/Hanover Road in Mount Pleasant Township around 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 19, the Pennsylvania State Police explained.
The driver "failed to stop at a stop sign" and their white 2010 Chevrolet Malibu collided with a semi-truck and spun around, while the trailer slammed into the utility pole, state police explained. The driver of the sedan was trapped in the vehicle and crews had to work together to extract them, United Hook & Ladder Company #33 explained.
The semi-driver was evaluated by EMS at the scene and suffered no injuries, according to PSP.
The driver was taken to Gettysburg Hospital by WellSpan Well Flight 2-8, authorities said.
The driver passed at the hospital on Thursday. Their name, cause, and manner of death have not been released.
The highway was closed Thursday night while Met-Ed repaired the utility pole and transformer.
On Friday, the United Hook & Ladder Company #33 was again called to a crash of a white sedan into a utility pole.
This time the crash was along Route 30 at Oak Drive west of Cross Keys.
The company issued a statement about the incident just before 9:30 a.m. on Oct. 20, the company explained that the area is closed to the public and it will remain closed "most of the day."
Several commenters on the post mentioned that they are without power and that this local has had similar incidents, making them lose power before.
There was also a crash into a utility pole along a high in Chambersburg on Friday morning — which the United Hook & Ladder Company #33 did not respond to.
That crash shuttered Lincoln Way East at 6th Street around 8:46 a.m.
The roadway remained closed as of noon.
The Chambersburg police are asking the public to avoid the area.
It is unclear exactly how many local residents lost power as a result of any of these crashes.
